OsciFlex LLC was founded in 2017 by John Welsh, PhD and Mark Kahn, MD at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Welsh and Dr. Kahn discovered the molecular pathways relating blood flow pattern to endothelial gene expression of thrombosis related proteins, outlined a protocol to analyze venous valve oscillatory flow in human subjects using vascular ultrasound, and created the initial OsciFlex device design.
The OsciFlex founders have more than 30 years of VTE experience.
Mark Kahn, MD – Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder
Dr. Kahn is the Cooper/McLure endowed chair in Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania, a practicing cardiologist, and a leading expert in the area of vascular biology and disease. Dr. Kahn has published extensively on vascular biology, has been an invited speaker at national and international scientific conferences, and has received numerous awards recognizing his research.

John Welsh, PhD – CEO and Co-Founder
Dr. Welsh earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Penn in 2015, and did his doctoral research in the role of blood flow and molecular transport in shaping blood clot formation. During his postdoctoral research with Dr. Kahn he further investigated the role of flow in shaping endothelial biology using animal studies andmicrofluidics. Dr. Welsh is the co-author of 17 peer reviewed scientific articles and multiple textbook chapters.
Robert Edelstein – Chief Business Development Officer, Adviser
Robert Edelstein has been in the surgical instrument business for close to 30 years. He founded Millennium Surgical Corp. where he developed and refined an innovative business model focused on expert support, high-quality US and German made specialty surgical instruments, and systems which enable hospitals and surgical centers to quickly locate and compare most specialty surgical instruments. In 2017 Millennium Surgical was acquired and merged with a division of a private equity owned company named Avalign Technologies.
Avi Golen – Adviser
Avi Golen co-founded Revolution Recovery LLC , a recycling company which grew to presently operate with 3 locations in the Delaware Valley. In early 2018, he sold this company and now spends his time investing in and advising early stage companies in all aspects of business planning, strategy, operations, sales, and executive coaching. He is also a co-founder of a non-profit arts organization, Recycled Artist In Residency (RAIR) and has held numerous non-profit board positions.
